On April 4 and 11, Chinese courts in Khotan Prefecture
persecuted 10 Uighurs for national separatism and issued
them various term jail sentences.
On April 4, the Khotan intermediate court held an open
trial in Karakash district and sentenced a young Uighur
man, Ababekri Mehsut, to 10 years in jail and to 3 years
deprivation of political rights. The court ruled the
following on Ababekri's "crimes":
"Ababekri Mehsut, 24 years old, resident of Karakash
district. His crimes: from December, 1998, to April,
1999, he preached to 10 people about jihad and against
the Chinese government's family planning policy. In
addition, he formed "The Party of Allah" and made 8
swords in order to split the country."
On April 11, the Chinese intermediate court held a
meeting in Khotan, under the title "Open trials in
Strike Hard campaign", convicted 9 Uighurs in "national
separatism", and issued them jail sentences for terms
ranging from 7 to 20 years.
The following people were sentenced to 7 years in jail
and 2 year
deprivation of political rights.
Abliz Mettohti, 25 years old, resident of Khotan
Abdumejit Aziz, 29 years old, resident of Khotan
Memet Mettohti, 30 years old, resident of Chira district
Memetjan Memet, 31 years old, resident of Chira district
Abdulhamit Aziz, 34 years old, resident of Khotan
(name of the sixth person is missing from the list)
The following people were sentenced as indicated.
Metturdi Tursun, 22 years old, resident of Bayingholun
Mongol Autonomous Oblast. Sentenced to 11 years in
prison and 3 years deprivation of political rights.
Elham Memet, 23 years old, resident of Bayingholun
Mongol Autonomous Oblast. Sentenced to 19 years in
prison and 3 years deprivation of political rights.
Sulayman Eysa, 28 years old, resident of Kashgar.
Sentenced to 20 years in prison and 5 years deprivation
of political rights.
The court also declared that these people, starting from
1999, were engaged in forming a secret organization
"East Turkistan Party of Allah", were engaged in
military trainings, stored weapons, tested bombs, and
drew plans to assist convicted criminals to escape from
prisons. |
