5 ) The Urumchi Public Security department announced closing 357 organizations in 2001

Our correspondent Tomur Choqqi reports again from Urumchi:

On March 28, the meeting of the Public Security units was called up in Urumchi. As it was mentioned at the meeting, during the last year the secret police (Public Security) closed in Urumchi 357 organizations and regional branches, arrested 196 people, nearly half of them were Uighurs accused of political charges.
