Chinese Authorities Hold Secret Trials Across East Turkestan

[East Turkistan Information Center, 2001/07/24]

Abdulla Pamir reports: over last time the Court of the city of Hotan held secret trial twice a week. Only 2 or 3 relatives are allowed to be present at the trial. As all international organizations know there is no difference between the proccutors and advocates at this kind of trials. These puppet courts in East Turkestan are to sentence defendents only and prosecutors, advocates, judjes, guards have no task but to accuse people. The typical example of the secret trials is that held on the 10th of June. This trial considered cases of 6 persons arrested two months ago, namely:
1. the main defendant Ablimit Dawut, 28 years old, from Guma county of the Hotan Prefecture, on the run
2. Memet Tohti Seydulla, 29 years old, from the village of Tewekkul of Hotan
3. Sattar Osman, 28 years old, from Yarkend Prefecture
4. Alilmin, 29 years old, from the village Doly, Lop Prefecture
5. Ruzimemet Ahmetniyaz, 27 years old, from the city of Hotan
6. Buhediche Enes, 19 years old woman, from the village of Tewkkul of Hotan, wife of Memet Tohti

The trial was held on the 10th of July at 8.00 a.m. and finished at 16.00 p.m. Attended three judges led by Hurnisa Qasim, two prosecutors and 4 advocates. Ablimit Dawut, the main defendant, is on the run since August 1997. 5 fellows of Ablimit Dawut have been accused in terrorism, stealing State's money, supporting reactionary propaganda, supporting criminals, planning to split the country, illegal keeping arms, helping attempt on the lives of the patriot religious leaders.

In the course of the trial when the judge Hurnisa Qadir asked defendant Rozimemet Ahmetniyaz if he recognizes his crimes, he refused to recognize. Then the judge said: "But why did you signed confession in crimes committed?" He replied: "I did not sign. Policemen hardly bit me up and took my fingerprint forcably". The judge Hurnisa said: "Our policemen are the people's policemen and they do not bit people, you are slamdering on our policemen". The trials on the rest 5 people seem have no difference from the trial on Rozimemet Ahmetniyaz descibed above, because everyone in East Turkestan knows that the Chinese policemen are able to get confession from anyone. The East Turkestan Information Center believes that the Amnesy International and other international human rights organizations will undertake measures before the five young Uygurs are sentenced by the Chinese Court.
