Who Is Telling The Truth On Strategy To Open North-West?

[East Turkistan Information Center, 6/21/01]

Editorial.

The Chinese propaganda machine recently claimed that foreign Uighur organizations do not wish well-being and prosperity of the "Xinjiang people", and that is why the Uighur organizations oppose foreign, in particular, Hong Kong, investments in East Turkistan.

A Hong Kong newspaper "Sun" in its May 18 issue published an article "Information on supporters of Xinjiang's independence" by Ma Li which in particular says:

"The movement for Xinjiang's independence is known as one of the three large separatist forces in China, and it stays in the rear of the supporters of the independence of Taiwan and Tibet. Supporters of the Xinjiang and Tibet independence are against of the opening the north-west being afraid that this policy causes danger to their national traditions. For example, the migration of a huge number of Chinese and the economic development will be accompanied by changes in customs and traditions of the local peoples and will lead to weakening of their religious believes. Actually, what they are afraid of is that the rising of living standards in minority areas will lead to more trust of the local peoples to the Communist Party, and, along with this, the movement for independence will loose ground".

"Anyone who has a little sense of logic understands that the opening of the north-west will lead to the development of Xinjiang. Supporters of Xinjiang's independence think in the contrary way; they pursue only their political aims and are not interested in improving of the life standards of the people. All this, like the incident of June 4 when some people demanded imposing embargo on China, contradict to the interests of the state".

Unfortunately, Mr. Ma Li fails to understand a simple thing, the importance of the sense of freedom to peoples, the existence of the Uighur national pride and the sense of national humiliation. The Uighur people will not sell its strive for freedom for a material welfare. That is why some Uighurs even sacrifice the most valuable thing they have, their lives, for the cause of freedom. We wish Mr. Ma Li could come to East Turkistan, thoroughly study the
psychology of the Uighur people, and see from a close distance all "good deeds" of the Chinese authorities in East Turkistan.

On May 30, a puppet Chairman of the "Autonomous Region's" government, Ablet Abdurishit, on a question by a "Hong Kong news radio" correspondent: "What does the Xinjiang government think about a view that the supporters of Xinjiang's independence are against of the Hong Kong investments because they believe that the Chinese will take the natural wealth of Xinjiang", answered:

"The anti-Chinese forces abroad do not wish China to be strong, they do not want the development of the north- west, they do not wish the people of Xinjiang to live well. This does not conform to the laws of the world development".

These are the words of a person, a communist Chinese accomplice, who turned his back to the sufferings of his own people. Ablet Abdurishit has to learn that the oppression causes a fight against the oppressors; not the other way round. At present, various actions against the communist Chinese authorities that are taking places all over East Turkistan are the result of the people's "not having a good life"

During last 50 years, the Uighurs living outside of the motherland have not lost the sense of unity with the people in East Turkistan. The Uighur community abroad have been struggling for real freedom and happiness of the people of East Turkistan. They serve as an amplifier of the voice of the suppressed people of East Turkistan to the international community. That is why the people of East Turkistan always trust the foreign Uighur organizations and consider them as their representatives to the outside world.

In a recent article by a German journalist, one Uighur in Kashgar apologized to him for not providing answers to political questions and wrote on a piece of paper a web address of an Uighur organization abroad saying: "Visit this site, and you will learn everything you need to know (about the situation in East Turkistan)."
