Musharraf
Gives Gul Blank Check for Cyprus
Islamabad, PAKISTAN,
May 22, 2003
- Pakistani President
Pervez Musharraf gave a blank check on the Cyprus
issue to Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gul,
whom he received yesterday.
Making a statement
after meeting with Musharraf, Gul reported that
the Pakistani leader had expressed total support
by saying, "We'll go along with whatever you say."
Gul added that they had discussed numerous issues
in Turkish during the meeting held at Musharraf's
official residence.
Noting that that
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would arrive
in Islamabad on June 15, Gul said he had conveyed
to Musharraf an invitation from President Ahmet
Necdet Sezer to pay a visit to Turkey.
Gul emphasized that
no country other than Pakistan supported Turkey on
every issue and said: "I actually have been
intending to pay my first visit to Pakistan for a
while, but conditions didn't permit [it] until now.
But I want it to be known that a new period [of
relations] is beginning between Turkey and
Pakistan." The minister voiced hope that Turkish
firms working with Pakistan would succeed in
securing more business contracts. |
