CHINESE COURT SENTENCED TWO UIGHURS TO DEATH On October 15, the Ili Intermediate Court held a trial of eight Uighurs for the alleged participation in anti-government activities during the events of February 5-6 of 1997 in Ghulja (Yining). The court sentenced two Uighurs, including Abdulmejit charged as "one of the leaders of the riot", to death. Three Uighurs were sentenced to death with 3 years delay of the execution, and the others received life imprisonment and other sever punishments. [Sayram]
