Uyghurs are feeling hopeless about
China’s human rights action plan

2009-04-16
China’s release of human rights action plan,
brought the image of fresh China and hope for the
people who is suffering under the Chinese
communist party regime. However, is this hope and
fresh future for Uyghurs who living remote region
East Turkistan as well? Unlikely, many Uyghurs are
not positive in this plan. “It could be only for
Chinese people. They had good autonomous law that
was established by the Chinese government, but all
of them are in the paper nothing has been
implemented. I am sure, this time will be the
same, I do not think they implement human rights
action plan in East Turkistan” said a young Uyghur
man from Urumchi who does not want to identify his
name.
Action plan was released in this Monday in this
week by the Chinese government, pledging to
improve the treatment of minorities and prevent
the torture of detainees. “It is a result of
pressure of democratic western countries and
domestic pressure as well during the global crisis
and there is a very huge possibility of
implementation of this plan.” Said Abdujelil
Karakash, the president of ETIC, but he is not
positive about the implementation of human rights
action plan in East Turkistan: “China may
implement the plan in other province of China, but
not in East Turkistan.” He explained the reason of
his doubt and said: “Because we know China always
claim that East Turkistan is part of China, but
they used to have different policy in East
Turkistan than other Chinese provinces. Actually,
the colonial policy that they are implementing
right now is proving that East Turkistan was
colonized region and not part of China”
Human rights defenders in western countries are
having doubts about the plan as well:
“Chinese government claims that China always
subsistence of people and their rights of economic
development put in first priority in Human rights,
however, abusing of the rights of development of
Uyghurs in East Turkistan is clearly contradiction
of China’s right to make money notion.” Said human
rights lawyer Ethien Mayor from Montreal.
Uyghurs are living in poverty and unemployment,
while Chinese government migrating millions of Han
Chinese into East Turkistan to offer job
opportunity. Last week, more than 8000 thousand
graduate Chinese students from Gensu province and
Lanjou province were offered with white color job
in East Turkistan, while Uyghur students are
suffering with unemployment. Speech freedom is
extremely tight in East Tukristan as well. 37
people were charged with various crimes last week
in Guma county of East Turkistan for watching
videos in you tube that involve with politics of
East Turkistan.
