Eastern Turkistan
Information Centre – annual progress report for 2004
1) The aim of the Information
Centre
Our information centre was established in June 1, 1996
in Munich, Germany under the leadership of Abdujelil
Qaraqash and it’s aim to embody the ideas of Eastern
Turkistan people, democracy and human rights, which
are appointed in general principles of UNO, and to
assist the implementation of Eastern Turkistan
people’s dream of national independence and to show
repressive policy of Chinese government against
Eastern Turkistan people with facts to the world
society and it has legal status.
2) Information Centre’s structure
Our centre has established www.uygur.org special
website, “Uygur awazi” internet radio and “Uchqun”
newspaper in Uyghur language, seasonal “Tamche”
magazine, which covers policy, history and religion,
Eastern Turkistan refugee and research fund, media and
information unit, internet technique department,
translation and edition department.
Even our headquarter is in Munich, we have specialists
about 20 countries in Asia, Europe and USA and more
than 20 full and part time specialists of our centre
are inside of Eastern Turkistan.
Besides that we set up “German-Uyghur Friendship
Society” in 1998 and it is continuing to function up
today.
3) Internet activity of the
Centre
Since our centre was established in 1996, it
disseminated information and news through
www.uygur.org webpage in English, German, Japanese,
Chinese, Arabic, Turkish and Uyghur languages.
Persecuting the opening of internet services in
Eastern Turkistan Chinese government started to
blacken and attack Mr. Abdujelil Qaraqash looking at
our centre as “one of the dangerous threats to Chinese
ideology”. For example, introduction of our centre
into the list of “terrorist organizations and
terrorists” dated from 15th December, 2003 by Chinese
National Security Ministry is one of the obvious facts
of this policy.
Our centre’s policy on democracy, human rights,
legislative government and own decision making rights
in Eastern Turkistan forced Chinese government to
start “action against national separatism ideology”
and through this action increased political pressure
to our specialists inside of motherland. For example,
in 2002 Xingjian Uyghur autonomy, Qashqar region
people’s court sentenced our special correspondent
Abdugheni Memetimin to 9 years of prison with order
No. 199 for his articles in “Uchqun” internet
newspaper looking at it as sending confidential
information out of country and action of separatism
against Chinese government.
At the moment in each of these 6 sites we have more
than 10000 pages of information materials and news and
about 2000 photos about Eastern Turkistan. Besides
that we are publicising “Uchqun” newspaper in 4
languages in a special page. Starting from last year
the number of visitors of our sites is increasing day
by day. Nowadays above 10000 different organisations,
universities, scientific research institutes,
international organisations and people from more than
60 countries are visiting our site. In addition, each
day we are receiving more than 100 messages through
the e-mail asking us to give information about Eastern
Turkistan. There are letters from correspondents form
different newspaper and magazines, representatives of
foreign information agencies, researchers, politicians
and people who are interested in Eastern Turkistan
among these messages.
4) “Uchqun” newspaper
In order to improve this serious gap and to provide
with all news concerning Eastern Turkistan Uyghurs
inside and outside of Motherland our centre started
publication of weekly “Uchqun” newspaper from March
15, 1999 and since that we are disseminating news all
over the world and starting from 46 edition we are
disseminating it through the internet and now we are
editing 100th edition of this newspaper.
Now “Uchqun” newspaper is one of the main information
sources for people, who are interested in getting
information about Uyghurs inside and outside of
Eastern Turkistan.
5) Political activity of our
Information Centre
A part of main function of our centre, which is
distributing news and information about Eastern
Turkistan to Uyghurs inside and outside of Motherland
and as well as developed world, our centre is trying
to aware all the world community about our nation’s
problem through strengthening of relationship with
different European organisations, organisation of
different conferences, demonstrations, reports,
dissemination of news-sheets, propaganda and etc. Last
year our Centre wrote more than 30 scientific reports
about Eastern Turkistan.
6) Successful implementation of
Internet radio
In order to adjust to the world technical development
our centre opened “Uyghur Awazi Internet Radiosi” in
our webpage officially in September 15, 1999 and from
that date we are broadcasting our programmes through
it. Up today this radio hasn’t interfered to any
politics or government business and that’s why is out
of any pressure or constraints. The main objective of
the “Uyghur awazi” radio is to embody the such ideas
as democracy and human rights, legislative government,
own decision making rights.
7) Our Information Centre’s
archive
Since our centre’s establishment, we continuously have
strengthened our confidential links with internal
information sources in Motherland and through the
expansion of the archive about Eastern Turkistan we
have created a good basis to show our nation’s
violation with facts to the whole world. Up today we
have more than 1000 original documents regarding
policy of Chinese government and marionette government
of Eastern Turkistan, court decisions of Chinese
courts of different levels, more than 500 different
books and magazines (the most of them archive books,
which are being distributed inside of the country) and
hundreds of letters, claims in the archive of our
centre. We have also more than 10000 photos of the
different places of our country and cassettes in our
archive. Many international organisations and world
mass-media are using the materials collected in our
centre directly.
Since our information centre was established we are
continuing our activity in accordance with UNO human
rights principles and international rules, fully
respecting EU and Germany rules, our centre is not
involved into any action, which is restricted by the
legislation of Germany and we are not “terrorist
organization” as Chinese government announced,
inversely we are against any terrorist acts, and
democracy and peace are main principles of our
information centre.
