Deports Two Uyghurs Back to China
BISHKEK, May 23 (NCA) -- Kyrgyzstan today announced it
has deported back to China two Uyghur
men accused of
involvement in terrorist activities.
Kyrgyz authorities have accused the two,
both citizens
of China, of playing a role in the
killing of a leader
of the Uyghur diaspora in Kyrgyzstan in
2000 and in the
later killing of a member of a Chinese
government
delegation. The Kyrgyz government
accuses the pair of
planning more terrorist acts. The
government said the
men were detained on May 8 and deported
to China on
Tuesday.
Authorities say the men entered
Kyrgyzstan illegally on
Turkish passports and are suspected
members of the
Eastern Turkestan Liberation Front, a
group that seeks
independence for China's western
Xinjiang Province, the
traditional home of the Uyghur people.
The Chinese
government calls the group Muslim
separatists.
