Falsifier Wang Lequen (2)
The French correspondents then asked Wang Lequen
another set of questions. “We are all aware about mass
protests in Guldja in 1997 which led to casualties and
deaths. How would you describe the current situation?”
The Chinese official replied: “ It is true that a riot
broke out in Guldja on February 5, 1997, when several
hundreds of protesters went out to the streets in
order to undermine the public order. They burned 21
vehicles, set fire on warehouses along the main road;
they did beat to death 7 passers-by. We were forced to
take legal actions to punish these criminals severely”.
It is obvious that Wang Lequen failed to mention the
fact that the riot lasted for 3 days and that actually
tens of thousands of people protested in a rally
against the Chinese Communist oppression.
The Chinese official tried to portray the Uyghur
protesters, the Eastern Turkistan liberation movement
and the whole famous “Guldja February 5 rebellion” as
simply a criminal activity carried out by a group of
terrorists. Wang Lequen failed to mention about
existing conflicts of interest between the Eastern
Turkistan population and the Chinese occupants. These
conflicts are basically the cause to the mass disorder
and protests.
The correspondents did not manage to clear
explanations from the evasive Communist official, so
they went to posing questions in a much more detailed
manner: “ The events [of Feb 5, 1997] demonstrate that
people are hopeless, driven to the verge of despair,
don’t you think so?” Wang Lequen said in reply: “The
mass disorder was organized from abroad by the Islamic
radicals based in Central Asia. They plan to establish
the Islamic rule all over the world. Some part of the
Xinjiang indigenous people fell under their influence.
The whole situation was organized by brutal and
merciless Islamic radicals”.
Interestingly enough, Wang Lequen partially admitted
in his interview that the “Guldja February 5”
rebellion had a political nature. He related mass
protests in Eastern Turkistan to the international
Islamic radical network. According to Mr. Wang, the
Eastern Turkistan liberation movement is only a branch
of the global Islamic fundamentalist conspiracy. Thus
the Chinese official attempted to distort the Uyghur
national liberation front’s image in the perception of
the world community.
Not satisfied with evasive replies, the correspondents
asked Wang Lequen straightforwardly: “ What you said
is one possible aspect of this issue. But another
possible explanation is that the rebellion broke out
from the mass dissatisfaction. This could well be
described as the fight for national liberation, for
sustaining and developing by Uyghurs their unique
culture and way of living.”
Naturally, Wang Lequen disagreed completely. “ The
events of Feb 5, 1997 are not related at all to
cultural and social issues. Our government implements
well balanced religious and cultural policies””.
Basically,
Mr. Wang evaded giving a direct answer to the direct
question. It seems that the French correspondents
finally lost any hope for getting an answer about
“Guldja February 5 events”, and quit questioning the
Chinese official on this topic. Wang Lequen, who ruled
in Eastern Turkistan over last 10 years and oppressed
Uyghurs in any possible way, has long deserved a
reputation of the bloodthirsty slaughterer. He is too
afraid to give an honest answer about what happened in
Guldja city in 1997.
The Chinese regime relates national liberation
movement in Eastern Turkistan to the international
terrorism and Islamic radicalism. It has long
attempted to stain the image of the Uyghur fighters
for independence in order to deprive them of
international support and sympathies. The Chinese
authorities accuse Uyghurs of being Islamic terrorists.
Even though the majority of Uyghurs are Muslims, no
one has the right of blaming them “terrorists.” Being
a Muslim does not mean being a terrorist. There is an
obvious flaw in the Chinese fabricators’ logic. We
would rather say that the problem is not a poor
logical reasoning. The Chinese authorities rather
deliberately retort to dirty and mean propaganda in
order to label the Uyghur liberation struggle for
independence and freedom as “a terrorist conspiracy.”
The Uyghurs struggle for gaining freedom and
independence for themselves, not for establishing a
radical regime for international terrorists!
We would like to emphasize that the Eastern Turkistan
national liberation movement has nothing in common
with the international Islamic fundamentalism. Our
movement is not organized, financed by, supported by
or related to any Islamic radical groups or
organizations. The people of Eastern Turkistan suffer
national oppression and injustice from the Chinese
occupants. They live in a totalitarian country where
their rights are permanently violated. Citizens of
Eastern Turkistan dream of gaining freedom and
independence, of enjoying human rights, of restoring
their religious and cultural values.
The outbreak of rebellion in Guldja in 1997 was a
clear sign of the Uyghurs’ dissatisfaction with the
Chinese oppression. After this riot was crushed
violently about 5 years ago now, the Chinese rulers
have never ceased taking revenge on the Guldja’s
inhabitants. Several thousands of active rebels have
been executed in public and in secret. Tens of
thousands of Uyghurs have been arrested and given long
prison terms. Just three months ago several
participants of the Guldja rebellion, namely Abduhelil
Abdumijit, Abdumijit Abdurahman and other 6 fighters
for freedom were sentenced to death and executed on
the same day their verdicts were announced.
