We can classify
the political moves of the Chinese government in several
categories:
First. Prior to 9-11 events, the Chinese regime labeled
the organizations acting equally inside and outside
China as “national separatists”, then after 9-11 events
they immediately nicknamed them as “Eastern Turkistan
terrorists” and labeled all national organizations
acting in exile as ‘terrorist” regardless the nature and
character of Uyghur movements and organizations.
“Eastern Turkistan terrorists” suddenly came to
existence on September 10, 2001 in all Chinese media.
Second. China does everything possible to portray
Uyghurs who fight for national liberation, freedom and
self-governing as a part of the ‘global terrorist
conspiracy”, by constantly and deliberately confusing
national liberation fight with the Islamic
fundamentalist organizations.
One proof is that before 9-11 events, the Chinese regime
in its media had explained the objectives of the Uyghur
national liberation movement in these words: “ the real
purpose of national separatists is to overturn the
communist regime and to break our Xinjiang off from
China, to make it an independent state.” However, after
the tragic events in NYC, they claim that “their real
purpose is to join the international Islamist terrorist
forces and to exterminate all non-Muslims in Eastern
Turkistan and to create Taliban-type radical regime in
this region.”
Third, the Communist regime in Eastern Turkistan fails
to mention that long before 9-11 events, exactly since
the Uyghur rebellion against 1876 Manchu ruling, all
liberation rebels were brutally crashed. IN this regard
linking the Uyghur national fight to some Al-Qayide and
Usama bin Laden who became famous in mid-90s and to link
all armed rebellions of the Eastern Turkistan people
against the Chinese as conducted by “Islamic radicals of
Eastern Turkistan” group is basically nothing but one
single gross fabrication.
The Chinese government declared on 21 January 2002 in
its official statement that in the period from 1990
until 2001 period, the “Eastern Turkistan terrorists”
took 200 forced attacks/offences, that 162 victims were
murdered in these attacks, and more than 440 people were
wounded. In this report again “ the Islamic movement of
Eastern Turkistan” and “the Islamic front of Eastern
Turkistan” were mentioned. They report stated that they
even penetrated Ferghana and Kirghizstan, took 4
Japanese geologists as hostages, and that this armed
group acted in alliance with the Uzbek field commander
Namangani who had close relations with “Uyghur
terrorists.” The ultimate objective of the Chinese here
is to blacken the image of eastern Turkistan liberation
movement character and to it link to Al-Qayide, the
movement that appeared only in 1990s.
Fourth, the Chinese government after 9-11 events claimed
in its repots and statements that several cases of
bombing buses in Eastern Turkistan, explosions in
cinemas and theaters in 1990s (which really were the
cases of personal revenge), and particular cases of
scandals and quarrels between Uyghurs and Chinese –
should be definitely classified as a part of the
international terrorism, and to present the Chinese
military troops and police as “innocent Chinese citizens.”
Fifth, after 9-11 events, the Chinese government took
consistent and continuous actions to stain the nature of
the national struggle of Eastern Turkistan people for
liberation, freedom and democracy. The Chinese
occupation regime attempts to disguise this nature and
focuses only on “terrorist” armed groups, so it tries to
deprive the overall Uyghur liberation movement of the
international support. One clear proof is that the
Chinese regime on November 11-15, 2001 and on January
21, 2002 announced in its official reports that even the
events in “February 5” in Guldja which symbolize
national liberation struggle, were organized by some
“foreign terrorist forces”. The Chinese basically try to
present is national oppression of Eastern Turkistan
people as the anti-terrorist fight.
Sixth, the Chinese regime after 9-11 events mentioned
the cases of a certain number of Uyghur individuals who
fought in Afghanistan; they used this case as an excuse
to demonstrate in media that all the Uyghur liberation
movement was linked to the global terrorism. After 9-11
events China addressed the UN Security Council, European
Parliament, US government, and some international
organizations with claims than 200 Uyghurs fought in
Afghanistan against the international coalition and that
over 1000 Uyghurs “terrorists” were trained there.
Moreover, on 21 January 2002, the Chinese reported in
their official statement that “the Eastern Turkistan
Islamic organization” was linked to Usama bin Laden and
the Taliban. They mentioned Hesen Mehsum, field
commander in Namangan and a member of “the Uzbek Islamic
movement”. According to the statement, Hesen Mehsum
trained over 150 terrorists in Eastern Turkistan with
the help from Al-Qayida, built up over 10 secret
training bases and stored weapons there. Further, the
Chinese claim that the Eastern Turkistan liberation
movement was lead totally by the Al-Qayide and Taliban
regime.
Seventh, after 9-11 events, the Chinese government China
has worked out a new strategy regarding the
organizations working outside, and labeled the peaceful
protesters who actively condemned Chinese occupation for
over 50 years, as “the Eastern Turkistan terrorist
organizations”. The Chinese constantly falsify facts and
attempt to depict these peaceful fighters as being equal
to armed terrorists.
IN this sense, the Chinese government has directed the
sharp edge of the knife against “the Eastern Turkistan [Uyghurstan]”
and “the Eastern Turkistan Information Center” and
similar information centers and political organizations.
For example, the main organ of the Information Center is
situated in Munich, Germany. The Eastern Turkistan (Uyghurstan)
National Congress organized a forum in the European
Parliament “on October 19, 2001, about the occupation of
Eastern Turkistan over half a century by the Communist
China. The center planned to call up the third national
assembly. Immediately the Communist China tried to block
this forum in the European parliament and took serious
diplomatic actions in this regard.
Before the forum started on October 17, the Chinese
Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the European
Council, Euro parliament, information agencies and EU
member countries and sent to them letters and
communiqués where they labeled the national congress as
“a terrorist organization”, and some members of the
congress as ‘terrorists”. The Chinese ministry demanded
to cancel the national congress.
However, the forum started in the Euro parliament
according to the schedule. But the at the closing day of
the Congress, that is on October 19, the Chinese
Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative Sun Yixian in
Beijing announced to the Euro parliament members that
the Uyghur organizations in exile “want to break up
China; they are linked to international terrorism, they
caused deaths and mass injuries China and neighboring
states.”
The head Chinese consulate in Istanbul, Turkey announced
on November 15, 2001, that the Uyghur organizations in
exile were “terrorist organizations”. It mentioned ‘ the
Eastern Turkistan Information Center”. Again the Chinese
regime on November 11, 2001 announced in its report
named “let us pull out their mask off the Eastern
Turkistan terrorists” that “ there is an organization
abroad which consists of 50 terrorists… Their center is
in Germany.” and accused all foreign Uyghur
organizations of extremism, and directed main critics
against the National Congress, the Youth Assembly, and
the Eastern Turkistan Information Center situated in
Germany. Recently in “Urumchi evening news» article, the
Chinese regime said that the organization in Germany and
the National Congress was a part of the world terrorist
conspiracy.
Eighth, the Chinese government after 9-11 events
stressed out this issue as the biggest in its agenda,
and took several diplomatic actions in this direction.
For example, previously it was not even permitted to
mention the Eastern Turkistan problem, however, recently
the highest officials started mentioning it in all
official statements, even at the level of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs. The Central Committee of the
Communist Party of China took an advantage of 9-11
events to oppress even more severely the Uyghur
liberation struggle and to lie to the world community
about the real situation in this part of the world. |
