On March 24 the German radio
station broadcasting abroad, Deutsche Welle, raised in
its Chinese language program the issue of the situation
in Eastern Turkistan after September 11 events.
According to the sources, recently the German Ministry
of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the
human rights situation in Eastern Turkistan where it
particularly mentioned that the Chinese government used
the September 11 events as an excuse for further
oppression of the national independence movement and
arrested thousands of innocent Uyghurs, tortured and
killed many of them. The German Ministry of Foreign
Affairs urged the Chinese government to stop its
policies of violation of human rights in this region.
The representative of the Human Right organization in
Germany, Ms. Bakir commented to our correspondent about
the situation in Eastern Turkistan: “ The human rights
record in Eastern Turkistan has been worsening since
September 11 events. The Chinese government links the
Uyghur fighters for national independence with
international terrorists and intensifies their
oppression. In reality, Uyghur fighters for independence
have nothing in common with terrorists. They only
struggle for revival and development of its national
culture, religious values, and overall national
prosperity. In 1949 the ratio of the ethnic Chinese in
this region was only 3-4%, nowadays they amount to
nearly 50%.”
Our correspondent from the Eastern Turkistan Information
Center, Mr. Dilshat Rishit, also participated in the
radio program. He said: “ After September 11 events the
Chinese regime have labeled Uyghurs as terrorists, and
persecuted them severely. Over the last half a year,
over 3 thousand Uyghurs were imprisoned, and 25 Uyghurs
were shot dead.” Dilshat Rishit also mentioned the
latest processes in Eastern Turkistan: “Since the
beginning of the year, the Chinese regime has launched
the process of “ideological fight against nationalist
ethnic separatists” and “re-education of masses against
the separatists”. As a result, the government
totalitarian control over national publishing houses,
TV, radio programs, cinema, educational and cultural
systems became very tense and harsh. Even the
Internet-cafes run by ethnic Uyghurs were closed.
The Chinese Communist regime is intensifying oppression
of human rights of the Eastern Turkistan people.”
