(1) JIANG ZEMIN STARTS HIS SIX-NATION TRIP ON SUNDAY

Chinese President JIANG Zemin left for his six-nation visit of Spain, Norway, Romania, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, on Sunday, Reuters reported. Foreign Minister QIAN Qichen and the Minister in charge of the State Economic and Trade Commission WANG Zhongyu are accompanying JIANG. The trip is aimed at shoring up JIANG's position at home and nurturing an international profile, diplomats said. JIANG is to miss celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, which he heads. During the visit, agreements on economic and trade cooperation will be signed and new cooperation will be explored. This is JIANG's second international tour in as many months. He visited six African nations in May, granting soft loans to offset Taiwan's lucrative lures there and ensure maintenance of friendships all over the world.

(2) ARRESTS IN URUMCHI.

The Chinese authorities continue the "Cleaning up" operation in Xinjiang. On early morning of June 18 about 10 thousand military and police officers launched in Urumchi a thorough search of the families which they considered to be "suspicious", and arrested 300 "criminals". After the operation, the welcome event was organized by the government to thank the PLA and police officers who conducted the mass arrests in Urumchi. The money and gifts for the event were collected from the local Uyghurs.

(3) SABOTAGE INCIDENTS IN ROADS.

From June 9 to June 20 some roads and railroads between Beijing-Urumchi-Kashgar were unfunctional because of the sabotage incidents. To normalize their operation, the government, in addition to the local police, had formed 25 groups from the so-called "Bin Tuan" production and development forces [2] to guard the roads and railways. After June 20 the transportation along the roads returned to normal operation.

(4) MASSIVE ARRESTS IN XINJIANG

In the last two months the massive arrests have been conducted in Xinjiang four times with about 1,200 Uyghurs arrested in the previous operations. About four thousand Uyghur talips (Islamic students) were arrested in Xinjiang during the last operation. Their parents and relatives could not find them in the local prisoner camps. The arrested were reported to be in the camp of capacity 20 thousand prisoners in Qinhai province. The WUSh organized a fact finding trip to Qinhai, and learned that the Chinese authorities exchanged the ethnic Chinese prisoners in the Qinhai camp to the Uyghur prisoners from Xinjiang.

(5) MEDIA CONFERENCE OF ORHAN KHOGHUNQI IN ANKARA

Turkey Milli Deputy Orhan Khoghunqi organized a media conference in Ankara-Capital of Turkey. Arkin Akram, representative of Eastern Turkistan Student Union, reported the recent aggressive policies of Chinese Government in Eastern Turkistan. Milli Deputy Orhan Khoghunqi called on media to follow closely upon the recent events in Eastern Turkistan.--Arkin Tarim from Ankara, Turkey.

(6) A DEMONSTRATION IN ISTANBUL.

The Eastern Turkistan Women's Association organized a demonstration in front of Chinese embassy in Istanbul, Turkey. They protested the Chinese nuclear test and current one-and-a-half-month old "strike hard" murderous policy that put thousand of innocent Uighurs in prison in Eastern Turkistan.--Mahmut Pida'i from Istanbul, Turkey.

(7) A MEETING IN XINJIANG GOVERNMENT HALL

A meeting of police officers, from every district police headquarters in Xinjiang region, hold in Xinjiang Government meeting hall. In the report of this meeting stated that: If the recent uprisings not distinguished, the result would be a similar war that occurred in the Chechnya of Russia. The Chinese slang:"kill thousand innocents, don't let one suspect slip away" Jwas used to describe the Government policy of "strike hard".

(8) AN INCIDENT IN FRONT OF ERGONG RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION BUILDING .

In front of Ergong Railroad Administration building, there was a TV/Video night club that entertains Chinese exploded by a bomb. The bomb took 18 Chinese souls, and injured 32.

After this incident Chinese Authorities arrested all the traders that doing business in the Ergong who came from Southern part of Eastern Turkistan with the blames of "splittism".

Some of them still jailed in the prison-camp Anqiwan, located in Ergong.

(9) A CLASH IN ERDOQUO AND URUMCHI

3 June 1996, The Eastern Turkistan Information Center.

In Erdoquo and Sanshihanza, 3 young men opened fire to a group of policemen, 3 policemen were injured and taken to nearby hospital. There were no report of their conditions. After heavy fires exchange, the 3 young men were circled by polices from all over the city.

The police captured all three young men. The leader of three-men, Abdullahan, wounded by 5 shots in his stomach when police arrested him.

On the 24th of April, in the big market-place Dong Koruk, unknown 2 Uyghur young men opened fire to 4 policemen, four of them were gone to the hell right on the scene. After 2-3 hours street gun fighting with the arriving police, one of the fighters was killed and other escaped from the battle.

Eastern Turkistan (Sherqiy Turkistan in Uyghur) is a name used by the indigenous people of the region for their motherland located in what is at present the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic China.
