UYGHUR CLASHED WITH POLICE IN GHULJA
[ETIC, 04/23/98] According to the reports of local people, on April 20-21, Uyghur pro-independence fighters clashed with the Chinese paramilitary police in the city of Ghulja of Eastern Turkistan/Uyghuristan. A Chinese police squad run into a fierce armed resistance during its attempt to arrest a group of Uyghurs suspected in separatist activities.
