[ETIC, 9/19/97] In mountains of the Taghlik region of Aksu province, a large number of the Chinese troops have been searching during the last 2 weeks for 25 young Uyghurs, including one woman. These people are believed being involved in an armed resistance against the Chinese authority in Eastern Turkistan. Despite all the efforts by the Chinese military, none of the alleged rebels has been caught so far. The region still remains under siege by the military. Aksu province is located in the south of Eastern Turkistan and borders Kyrgyzstan. [Abdullah Pamir]
