RECENT MASS KILLINGS OF UIGHURS IN STRIKE HARD BY CHINESE AUTHORITIES

A recent directive of the Chinese communist party identified "national separatists and illegal religious elements" as main targets of a new wave of Strike Hard in "Xinjiang". Following this order, the "Xinjiang" authorities put aside the struggle against "regular" criminals and began "fighting" with innocent Uighurs, who are known to have a strong sense of ethnic and religious identity different from those of the Chinese.

After this campaign had been launched, numerous Uighurs in almost all regions of East Turkistan were falsely accused in committing "crimes", and, without sufficient proofs of guilt, were executed or thrown into prisons.

KASHGAR

According to the newspaper "Kashgar geziti", during three days from April 26 to April 29, 186 Uighurs were arrested in Kashgar Prefecture and accused in "national separatism and illegal religious activities"; 153 were sentenced to death and other strict form sentences. An open trial, held on April 26 in Kashgar, sentenced six Uighurs to death.
Among the executed were

Ablimit Memet, 
Ehmet Tursun, 
Abdugheni Semet.

According to classified Chinese documents, during the period from April 26 to May 7, the Chinese authorities mobilized 1,510 policemen and 602 cars and detained about 1,000 Uighurs in Kashgar alone accusing them in "national separatism and illegal religious activities".

ILI PREFECTURE

The Chinese authorities arrested numerous young Uighurs in different regions and villages of Ili prefecture considering them as "suspicious elements" and sentenced some of them to death and other serious forms of punishments without proper trials. On April 21, the Ili Prefecture Intermediate Court sentenced 13 Uighurs to death as "national separatists and religious elements engaged in illegal activities", and they were shot right after the trial. The following seven people were among the executed:

Tudahun Tudahun, 
Dilshatbek Tursun, 
Azat Munar, Yasinjan,
Yarmemet Imin, 
Tursuntay Memet, 
Zeydin Kenji.

On April 28, four young Uighurs,

Sawutjan, 26 years old, 
Ablimit Qarim, 30 years old, 
Omer Qarim, 25 years old, 
Polat, 35 years old.

residents of the village of Yehgiyer in the vicinity of the city of Ghulja, were detained and sentenced in "supporting national separatist activities".

On May 1, with the same accusations, 11 young Uighurs were arrested in the the villages of Dadamtu, Noghaytu, Aqtope in the Ghulja region.

KORLA PREFECTURE

On April 27, the Korla Prefecture Intermediate Court held an open trial and considered cases of 50 people. Six Uighurs among the tried,

Tahir Awut, 
Enwer Nasir,
Kirem Qasim,
Ahmet Qurban,
Tohti Memet, 
Kurban Abdurehim

were sentenced to death for "national separatism" and "the actions to split the state and illegal religious activities".

HOTAN PREFECTURE

On April 28, the Chinese police organized mass searches in villages and towns of Hotan Prefecture. The same day, the Hotan Prefecture Intermediate Court held an open trial in the town of Bsghchi (?) and sentenced 16 Uighurs to different forms of punishment for "terrorism, national separatism, and illegal religious activities". Some of the sentenced are:

1. Abdurishit Obulhesen, 22, from the village Qaratoghraq in Tewekkul County, religious education, sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, deprived of his political right forever

2. Ehmetniyaz Metrozi, 34, from the village of Laskuy, Hotan Prefecture, sentenced to 12 yeras imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 4 years

3. Tursuntohti Ehmet, 27, from Hotan Prefecture, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 3 years

4. Tursun Omer, 23, from the village of Yengi Awat of Hotan Prefecture, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 3 years

5. Memet Abla Islam, 26, from Hotan Prefecture, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 3 years

6. Abdumijit Abdukerim, 18, from Hotan Prefecture, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 3 years

7. Jaffar, 18, sentenced to 13 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 2 years

8. Memetrozi Ehmet, 26, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 5 years

9. Osman Sulayman, 23, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 4 years

10. Ehmettohti Abla, 27, sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 5 years

11. Tursun Qadir, 26, sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, deprived of political rights for 2 years

TURFAN PREFECTURE

According to "Turpan geziti" newspaper, on April 24, the Turfan Prefecture Intermediate Court held a session and sentenced 14 (13?) Uighurs as "elements who tried to split the state, criminals, and robbers" to different forms of punishment. They are:

Tohti Hebibullah, sentenced to death 
Abdusemet Bekri, sentenced to 10 years and 8 months imprisonment
Abdurahman Kerem, sentenced to 3 years imprisonment 
Weli Abdurahman, sentenced to death 
Ekber Abdurahman, sentenced to 15 years imprisonment 
Omer Memet, sentenced to 7 years imprisonment
Momin Qadir, sentenced to 11 years imprisonment 
Omer Merdan, sentenced to 3 years imprisonment 
Yusup Tusiyat, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment 
Rejep Osman, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment 
Gheni Eliniyaz, sentenced to 6 years imprisonment
Qahar Rozi, sentenced to 3 years imprisonment 
Abdurehim Kerem, sentenced to 2 years imprisonment.

TOHSUN

on April 29, the Chinese court in Tohsun held a special session, the open trial of Strike Hard, and sentenced 24 Uighurs including

Gheni Tursun, 
Osman Menglik,
Zibibulla Hebibulla

to different terms of imprisonment. About one thousand Uighurs were forced to take part in the trial. The ages of the tried persons were between 19 and 59. At the open trial, the Deputy Chief of the local Chinese Security Organization, Jiang Maohung, delivered a speech and said that, this time, Strike Hard was organized by the Communist Party committee of the Turfan Prefecture, and that this kind of actions will be conducted in the future in more strict form.

AKSU PREFECTURE

On April 27, the Aksu Prefecture Intermediate Court, held a special session devoted to Strike Hard and sentenced five young Uighurs

Abdulla Ghojek, 
Eysa Tohti, 
Yusup Ehmet,
Memet Ehmet,
Abduqadir Memet

to death for "national separatism and illegal religious activities".They were taken to the execution site guarded by hundreds of Chinese soldiers and policemen. Relatives were not permitted to come to the execution site. After the executions, the bodies of the young Uighurs were not returned to their families; the bodies were thrown to one hole and buried using bulldozers.
