SIX UIGHURS SENTENCED AND REPORTEDLY EXECUTED IN KORLA
On April 27, 2001, at 10 a.m. the intermediate court of the city of Korla of East Turkistan (Xinjiang-Uighur Autonomous Region) held open trials of 50 people. The court found six Uighurs, Tahir Avut, Enver Nasir, Karim Qasim, Ahmet Qurban, Tohti Memet, and Kurban Abdurahim, guilty of "separatism, violating the state security, and illegal religious activities" and sentenced them to death. Is is reported that the sentences were carried out immediately.
