MUSLIMS SUSPECT GOVERNMENT IN MOSQUE FIRES On March 21 and 22, two mosques were set on fire in Urumchi Prefecture, and local Muslims suspect the Chinese authorities in setting the fires. A few days earlier, the local authorities closed the mosques under pretext that the buildings were built without a proper government authorization, but the local Muslims broke into the mosque and held a religious service.
