Please come to join our demonstration in San Francisco:
1.
To mark the 11th anniversary of the Chinese
government's inhuman crackdown of Barin uprising in
Aktu County, East Turkistan.
2. To demand unconditionally and
immediate release of Uyghur historian, Tohti Muzat.
3. To demand unconditionally and
immediate release of Uyghur businesswoman, Rabiye
Kadeer.
In April 5 of 1990, oppressed
Uyghur farmers in Barin Village stood up against The
Chinese government's brutal dictatorship to claim
their rights to survive. They faced heavily
armed government forces and were crushed ruthlessly by
the PLA. Many of them lost their lives in this
crackdown. The CCP started nationwide campaign of
purging Uyghurs under the pretext of "Barin
Separatist" and arrested 5000 innocent people in
a year after this event. Most of them are still in
prison today without any judicial trial.
Tohti Muzat, a well known Uyghur
historian was arrested in Urumchi by the Chinese
authorities in 1998 on his way back to Japan , after
visiting his family in Aksu. He was sentenced to
14 years in prison next year on false charges of
allegedly taking historical documents to a foreign
country. It is currently unknown as to where he
is serving his prison term. Prior to his arrest, he
was a doctoral student at the University of Tokyo. He
is the author of popular history book, "Uyghur
History and Culture", which was banned after his
arrest.
In March of 2000, Chinese court
in Urumchi sentenced Rebiya Kadeer to 8 years in
prison for allegedly giving state secrets to foreign
institutions. The only evidence that the Chinese
government offered was Rebiya's attempt to send
legally published, publicly available newspapers to
her husband, Sidik Rouzi, a Uyghur political refugee
living in the United States. The charges against
Rebiya are unsubstantiated, and her right to due
process has been violated.
