Housing Prices are Rapidly Increased in East Turkistan

2009-01-15

ETIC learned that housing prices rapidly increased in EAST Turkistan as millions of Han Chinese immigrated annually into East Turkistan. In these years housing construction were increased dramatically in East Turkistan. Local Uyghur houses were taken over by the Chinese government for these Housing constructions and provided Han migrants new housing with special discount prices. Uyghurs are not only excluded from these advantages but also forced to move small rental apartments or kicked out to the streets without any compensation. Last week three Uyghur petitioners who went to Beijing demand compensation for their demolished house were set fire itself.

ETIC learned that these Uyghurs were thrown out from their own houses without compensation and forced to be homeless. Although they bring their cases to central government, no one listen to them and they were faced to police threat in Beijing. But, Chinese government told foreign media that these people were expect too much, despite that they had compensation already.

According to Chinese media, in February of this year business on commodity houses in Urumchi increased by 5.58 times and 12.33% compared with that in this January. Rapid increasing of housing prices in only one month indicates that Han Chinese seasonal workers in reality permanently settled in East Turkistan and number of those permanent settlers were greater than previous years..
