ETIC Mark International Women’s Day

2009-03-07

International Women’s day have significant historical background and tremendous means for women’s value and rights. In 1917, March 8 ( Gregorian calendar) Russian women strike for “Peace and Bread” against the war. Since then, march 8 has became the international day of women to celebrate women’s dedication, courage and their significant role in the Society, The hands that rock the cradle rule the world.

Uyghur women have carried a crucial role in history of East Turkistan. They are not only shouldered the financial responsibility of the family equally with man but also played main role of nurturing the family as being a mother. Most extensively, Uyghur women were played pivotal role in carrying Uyghur struggle to the fore front. Since China occupied the land of East Turkistan Uyghur women constantly fight for the freedom and raised many heroes for the Uyghur society. We have a countless Uyghur women such as Iparhan who refused to be queen of the Chinese king and committed to suicide to protect national dignity in the history and we have many courageous women in recent history as well. Anargul, who is 23, fought against the Chinese communist government and was violently killed in august 2008. Current Uyghur political leader Rebiya Kadeer, who paid enormous price to fight with China’s aggressive rule, is highlighting Uyghur mother’s charm and courage as well. In March 23, 2008 marked history as thousands of Uyghur Women in Hoten city of East Turkistan came forward to protest the China’s harsh crack down policy on Uyghurs . Many of those Uyghur women protesters are now suffering in the Chinese prison. ETIC mark 100 years of international women’s day and honor our brave Uyghur women who are playing a key role in Uyghur people’s freedom. We would like to present a special thanks to our political leader Rebiya Kadeer and all of Uyghur women. We also would like to ask all Uyghur women to place their value on the identity crisis of Uyghurs facing today. Uyghur identity is diminishing under the ethnic cleansing policy of China and Uyghur women could make great contribution to survival of Uyghurs’ identity..
