Chapchal people still living in
badly damaged houses
2009-01-04
Chapchal county of East Turkistan was rocked in
February first by an earthquake measuring 5.0 on
the Richter scale. More than 4500 people effected
and houses were collapsed and damaged by
earthquake, the Chinese state media reported. The
report also said that government relocated
affected people to the schools, government
buildings and tents. However, people interviewed
by RFA in Chapchal county said that many people
still living in badly damaged houses in hardship
condition and they did not receive any help from
the government so far.
