FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY FOR LAOS. NEW VIETNAMESE AND UIGHUR SUPPORTS TO THE 26 OCTOBER DEMONSTRATIONS

Paris-Strasbourg, 22 October 2002. New testimonies of support to the demonstrations that will take place this Saturday 26 October in front of the embassies of the Lao People Democratic Republic in Australia, Belgium, France, Russia and United States, are arriving. Information on the modalities for participating at the demonstrations can be found on www.radicalparty.org

Statement of Enver Can, President of the East Turkestan (Uyghuristan) National Congress:

"The 26th October will be a special day for all suppressed peoples around the world: It will be the Third Anniversary of the non-violent demonstrations on the 26 October 1999 for freedom, democracy and national reconciliation in Laos, during which five Lao students of the democratic movement disappeared. The coming Anniversary will also be a day of hope for all democrats, freedom fighters and human rights defenders who demonstrate in different parts of the world for those who sacrificed their lives for democratic values. We, Uyghurs, as an oppressed people who suffer under the Chinese dictatorial regime, will co-operate with other democrats for a global approach of the fight for the freedom. Lets globalise democracy, freedom and justice. Freedom and human rights are inseparable. Together we will be stronger and closer to our goal. The Uyghur people around the world demonstrate its solidarity with the Laotian democrats and support the demonstration on 26 October 2002, jointly organised by the Lao Movement for human Rights, the Transnational Radical Party and Forum Asia Democracy."

Statement of Quan Nguyen M.D., Chairman of the International Support Committee to the Non Violent Movement For Human Rights in Vietnam:

"On behalf of my organisation and of all Vietnamese who love freedom and democracy, I would like to send you our solidarity and supports for the Lao's demonstrations on the 26 October, 2002. Dictators in Asia help each other. We need to speak as one voice against the dictatorial regimes in Asia. We need to join forces to fight against their atrocities and to do everything possible to bring freedom and democracy to Vientiane, Hanoi, Rangoon and everywhere in Asia. In that spirit I wish you every success and I salute all Lao freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for the noble cause that all of us share."
