We
Strongly Refuse Calumny of Chinese Government
Eastern Turkistan Information Center’s statement
Our Information Center on May 14 2001 our reporter in
Sweden Dilshat Rexit send a brief report to the
Shanggang media sources. Shanggang trade
representatives have expressed some discontent during
their visiting Eastern Turkistan. However, the Chinese
Communist media distorted our information and claimed
“Shanggang traders were intimidated”. After September
11 events the Chinese regime started labeling the
Uyghur national movement as “a terrorist conspiracy”
and it used the case with “Shanggang traders” as a
“solid proof” of involvement of our Information Center
in the “terrorist activities”.
This year on April 23 Fan Zhu Ping, a member of the
“Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences, Institute of
Central Asia”, declared in the “Xinjiang Academy
Reports” magazine, in his article named “Analysis of
the terrorist activities in Eastern Turkistan” that
our Information Center led “terrorist activities”
towards Shanggang traders. He also mentioned unrelated
to our Information Center incidents in Kuchar region
in August 2001 as if were had anything in common with
our activities.
In order to resist the calumny and fabrications of the
Chinese regime our Information Center has found it
useful to inform again the world public about the true
story of the Shanggang traders. On May 20, 2001, a
group of 282 Shanggang traders planned to visit
Eastern Turkistan following the plans of “exploring
the West” policy and to work out economic plans. On
May 14 the correspondent in Sweden, Dilshat Rexit,
sent reports to our Center that Uyghurs were against
investing in Eastern Turkistan by Shanggang traders
since these investments would harm the Uyghur people,
that over a long period all kinds of investments were
only benefiting the ethnic Chinese and only accelerate
the migration of Chinese into Eastern Turkistan
whereas increase the number of unemployed among the
Uyghurs. Our correspondent also asked the Shanggang
trade representatives to deliver to the Chinese
government 3 demands of the Eastern Turkistan
Information Center:
1) Solution of the unemployment problem among the
Uyghurs
2) Improving human right record and providing better
conditions for exercising religious freedom
3) Creating opportunities for Uyghur businesspeople
for direct relations with Shanggang traders. They
should be freed from the total Beijing control
At the end of the above-mentioned statement made by
the Eastern Turkistan Information Center there was a
warning for caution regarding investing in the Eastern
Turkistan. Unfortunately, the Chinese Communist media
had turned down our requests to consider the
above-mentioned demands and instead they kept
referring to some “Eastern Turkistan terrorists” as a
“proof” of our ‘terrorist activities”. Since the
establishment of our Information Center in 1996 our
organization has been acting in accordance with
international legal norms and federal laws of Germany.
That is why we reject all calumny raised by the
Chinese government regarding our activities and we
view such fabrications as a part of the mass political
propaganda efforts of the Chinese government!
With kind regards,
Abdujelil Qaraqash
Chairman of the Eastern Turkistan Information Center
