Even though China tries its
best to label Uighurs as terrorists, they are not
succeeding. USA, western European and other democratic
countries are not convinced of the Chinese claims. In
contrary, the world community has expressed a voice of
concern by the latest developments in East Turkistan.
For instance, during his visit to Shanghai on October
21st, President Bush have asked his Chinese counterpart
Jiang Zemin not to use the fight against the terrorism
as a pretext to mount pressure on ethnic minorities. It
is obvious that ethnic minorities meant Uighurs.
In Brussels, the third East Turkistan National Congress
was successfully held in the building of the European
Parliament despite of all Chinese efforts to block it.
The European parliament demonstrated again its
principled position on human rights and did not bend to
the Chinese pressure. On November 9th during her visit
to China, the UN high commissioner on human rights, Mrs.
Marie Robinson, has expressed her concerns regarding
Uighurs and the violation of human rights in East
Turkistan.
The Chinese authorities have not come up with facts
proving their allegation on the connections between
Uighur organizations and the international terrorism.
The Chinese government hoped that just labeling Uighurs
as terrorists will be sufficient for the world community
and USA to support the Chinese crackdown on the Uighurs.
But the world community did not believe to the lies of
the Chinese Government. On contrary, many Uighurs
believe on the contrary, that the Chinese government is
a terrorist organization itself. The world community
began slowly to understand the tragedy of Uighurs and
the degree of the Chinese oppression. |
