On March 18 in
each district of Urumchi city the conference of the
delegates of the armed forces and military academies was
called up. This time the representatives of the military
units with personnel of more than 100 staff participated
at the 7-day conference. Commander of the People’s
Liberation Army (PLA) Gai Lei gave a speech and he said
that this time the education process should be directed
against the nationalist ethnic separatists, that all
force and weapons should be used against the enemies.
This year the Chinese regime has intensified the
so-called “struggle against the ethnic separatists” and
also increased the number and strength of the armed
forces. The regime implements a stricter control over
Uighurs in Eastern Turkistan. The Chinese government
organized several military maneuvers and training in the
Autonomous region in order to demonstrate its military
strength. Recently a great number of troops were
deployed in Eastern Turkistan under pretext of the
political events in Afghanistan and Kashmir.
The deputy head of the language and literature
department of the Ministry of Education of China, Mr.
Chang Zhangshi, arrived to Urumchi on March 18, 2002 to
give instructions on further implementing Chinese
regulations regarding Uighur language and literature
that have been in place since 1992. In the Urumchi
region so far about 150 primary and secondary schools
were built for children of mixed Chinese and Uighur
origin. In Urumchi only about 70 thousand ethnic Uighur
children attend such schools.
The level of teaching was always lower at the Uighur
national schools than at the Chinese schools. The main
reason is the little financing school by the Chinese
regime. However, the Chinese authorities blame the
Uighur language as the main reason for bad education
level. Starting from 1990s in Uighur schools the
so-called “experimental classes” were organized with
main objective of teaching the children the Chinese
language only.
Starting from 2000 the full secondary schools were
opened with the Uighur language of teaching. Secretary
Wang Lequen said to correspondents in Beijing that from
that moment onwards in all secondary schools the
students would learn Chinese language from the third
grade. He said also “this was done in order to improve
education level of the Uighurs, to develop science and
technology.”
In reality this is nothing but the Chinese policy of
exterminating the Uighur literature, language and
culture. This is a policy of assimilation Uighurs! Any
ethnic group lives by and survives by saving and
developing its language. The ethic group, which loses
its language, also loses national pride, values and hope
for the better future. The Chinese have also implemented
this policy of assimilation of minorities and
extinguishing national languages and cultures. The
Chinese regime wishes our Uighur youth to forget their
mother tongue, national values and culture and in future
to drop the ideas of the national liberation and
independence! |
